Next week, tens of thousands from around the world will be flocking to Las Vegas to witness cutting-edge technology – across AI, robotics, gaming, digital health, automotive, and more – that will shape the way we live and work. For more than 50 years, the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES®) has been world-renowned as a showcase for product announcements and launchpad for new innovations. The next show will take place from January 7-10, 2025 at the Las Vegas Convention Center as well as many nearby hotels in the area. While this year, CES has broadened the mix of product groups to include hundreds of new exhibitors, I will focus on several key topics where I believe we’ll see significant technology advancements.
If you are like me and attend CES or simply follow all the action, in the email, website and marketing pieces you will notice a refresh on the CES logo. Also changed is the logo for the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)®, the trade show’s producer. This update was made to mark the CTA’s 100 anniversary. The new logos are symbols that embody the connection between technology and humanity. And while we’re on image, it appears that CES is using AI to help generate some of the images on the website promoting the event. This image below is on the home page and is animated – I think it’s pretty cool. The CTA has developed a website that is reflective of the leading technologies showcased at the event. Nice work!
Taking a cue from the event’s theme ‘Dive In’, let’s do just that as it looks like CES 2025 will take on a whole new vibe from years past. What can we expect from CES 2025? The CTA has provided us with a list of the top three featured technologies, so let’s start there.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) – It dominated CES 2024 and looks to continue its momentum at CES 2025. In fact, it may touch almost every topic at CES. Since last year focused on what industries can do with AI technology and its tremendous potential, this year will provide insight into how it’s now being used, such as AI advancements across mobility, health tech, defense, and robotics. In addition, beyond medical applications, Phin Stim aims to integrate cutting-edge Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) technology, allowing users to control digital devices via brainwaves. This functionality extends its impact beyond healthcare, opening new possibilities for accessibility and innovation in consumer technology. Innovations aimed at mental health, including stress-reducing wearables and immersive therapeutic VR, are likely to emerge as key highlights under this topic.
Vehicle Tech and Advanced Mobility – Technology has transformed the way we experience mobility, from autonomous and connected vehicles to innovations in air transportation. Autonomous driving will advance further with the unveiling of smart transportation solutions that provide both added conveniences and increased efficiencies. Expect to see self-driving vehicles equipped with 5G connectivity and AI navigation tools alongside electric vehicles (EVs) with the latest modern designs.
Another 2025 CES Innovations Award Honoree is CIT Co., Ltd. in the Vehicle Tech and Advanced Mobility segment for its Dolphin transparent antenna. It is a near-invisible copper-based film that breaks through the limitations of conventional antennas, which only cover three bands. Dolphin can cover six bands from L-Band to K-Band, offering the widest coverage in the world. This broader frequency range supports improved communication speeds in autonomous vehicles and smoother vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication. Its transparent design integrates seamlessly into vehicle parts like windows, maintaining aesthetics. With technology breakthroughs like this, it’s easy to see how vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication systems along with advancements in urban air mobility, such as flying taxis, will continue to capture attention this year as well.
While I whole-heartedly agree with the CTA that these three topics will garner much attention at this year’s CES, I do want to point out a few more topics that are predicted to have a strong showing with notable innovations at CES.
Robotics – From consumer robots to industrial automation and accessibility, anticipate seeing cutting-edge robotic solutions that push the boundaries of what is possible in various industries. Personal robots for home chores, AI-driven automation in manufacturing, and service robots for healthcare and hospitality are likely to be headliners.
One notable example on the healthcare innovations side is Human In Motion Robotics Inc. with their XoMotion™ next-generation exoskeleton platform designed for individuals with lower extremity motor deficits. XoMotion™ is a 2025 CES Innovations Award Honoree for Robotics. This lower-limb medical device offers unparalleled multi-directional locomotion support through self-balancing and hands-free functionality. As a result, it enables customizable rehabilitation treatments across various stages of recovery. XoMotion™ not only enhances patient outcomes but also reduces cognitive load and physical strain on therapists in rehabilitation clinics.
In addition, advancements in far-field voice recognition integration in robotics will further enhance user interaction. Ark X Laboratories will be showcasing its EveryWord ™ High Performance Far-Field Voice Capture Solutions, which represent the continual advancements in this area, leading to more seamless integration of voice commands in smart devices. These capabilities are opening new opportunities for innovation and improving the quality of life for individuals across many different industries. I am still waiting for a ‘Rosie the Robot’ housekeeper from The Jetson’s cartoon to become a reality. We are close with robotic floor vacuums, but I would like one that also does both the dishes and laundry. Maybe this year…?
AR/VR/XR Technologies – Augmented, virtual, and extended reality are becoming integral to various industries, from entertainment to education and healthcare. At CES, you can expect to see groundbreaking hardware like next-gen AR glasses with real-time language translation, headsets and XR environments for virtual training. These advancements are not solely providing immersive gaming experiences, but apply to practical applications in healthcare, education, and retail. We will also see how AR and VR will revolutionize how consumers interact with technology in the future. Helping to facilitate that interaction is Zhuhai Mojie Technology Co., Ltd. with its ultra-lightweight polychromatic AR+AI glasses. They are a 2025 CES Innovations Award Honoree in the XR Technologies & Accessories category and the world’s lightest binocular polychromatic glasses at 49 grams (less than 2 oz!). The glasses use a resin diffractive waveguide as its core and, coupled with its proprietary near-eye display system, enables users to enjoy all-day comfort to redefine the emerging interactive experiences where AR technology is enhanced by AI (AR+AI).
Gaming and esports – The gaming sector continues to evolve and provide ever-more immersive experiences and this year with advancements in 3D gaming and haptic feedback devices, we’ll see ultra-realistic visuals powered by AR, VR, and XR technologies. At the same time, the esports ecosystem will continue to grow with tools and platforms enhancing player performance and fan engagement. The Claw 8 AI+ by MSI Computer Corp is a 2025 CES Innovations Award Honoree in Gaming & eSports. It earned this distinction as it’s the world’s first and only handheld to feature Intel’s new “Lunar Lake” CPU with 2nd Gen ARC graphics. In addition to better power efficiency is a larger battery, which provides 4+ hours of gameplay for AAA titles.
Also, as PC and laptop manufacturers continue to push the envelope on high performance to satisfy the competitive gamer, don’t be surprised if you see new monitors, graphics cards and laptops announced that feature DisplayPort 2.1, the latest version of the display interface standard by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA). Already, several products have been announced or confirmed that are expected to be officially introduced at CES supporting DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20 – offering a whopping 80 Gigabits per second (Gbps) of video bandwidth – along with all of the other benefits of DisplayPort including multiple monitor and Adaptive-Sync variable refresh rate support for the most immersive gaming and content creation experiences. If you are a gamer or love esports, this show will have you drooling for newer equipment!
Space technology – and last on my list and certainly not the least interesting of the categories! CES 2025 will feature many ambitious space-tech projects, which reflect our growing interest in exploring beyond the Earth. Commercial space travel, satellite innovations for global connectivity, and AI-driven space exploration tools are expected to be shown, highlighting the growing efforts to make space more accessible and impactful on Earth-based industries. Unlike the topics listed above, CES does not have a Space Tech Innovation Awards category. Perhaps it is because ALL of the technology at the show will impact space technology in one way or another.
However, I did find an interesting company that is exhibiting under ‘The Japan Tech Project’. The company is SPACE WALKER, which is a university startup conducting research and development of winged reusable suborbital and orbital space planes. The company envisions sustainable space transportation for all that will be as familiar as commercial air travel today. They are developing a space plane whose rocket is both reusable and uses clean fuel. SPACE WALKER expects to have its winged rocket experiment available to test in 2026. Their roadmap has a manned space plane ready for space travel by 2030. It will be exciting to see what other exhibitors have on their space roadmaps.
In closing, I think CES said it best, “Join us at the event where some of tech’s most beloved brands made their mark, where household names reveal their most exciting advancements — and where the entire tech ecosystem comes together to shape the future.” CES 2025 is set to bring to life cutting-edge advancements that will shape the future of technology and showcase the power of technology to pave the way for a brighter future for us all.
